Woman's Work Development

Three cloths airers purchased from Amazone which will become an  Art instillation.  These every day items make up part of a woman's life and experience.  I will paint them 'Persil White' to underline the necessity and importance of A 'Woman's Work' but also to underline the continual advertising of a Woman's place which is society moulded to be a Domestic slave. A day can be made up of, washing, cooking, cleaning, caring, part time working(low paid, to fit round the children).  The importance of cleaning can go unnoticed, its invisible like many woman's work, until its Not Done! This Instillation will be  sculpture like, three items, which can be walked around to view.  The Clothes Airers/horses will be elevated onto a Plinth, this will elevate the massive Domestic work which is undertaken by millions of women, worldwide.

Me with my apron on at 3years
I will add this as a layer to Bus Stop Thoughts.
Girl children are conditioned to do
housework/domestic tasks,from a young age,

Woman's Work is a vital part of society, but
Domestic tasks stifle women's  full potential.

Woman's Work

Negative thoughts-Woman's Work.
I created this layered print, with the idea
women often think and talk about what
is to be done once they 'finish work'!
Many women perform Domestic tasks within the workplace
and then go home to do more Domestic tasks.
Even women who balance careers/work,
have Domestic tasks to do on arriving home,
and or have a woman domestic 'help'.

Me, taken at a Bus Stop, with hand knitted scarf
(knitted by Caroline).
I layered two photos within Photoshop elements
to give this person (me) portrayed as any
every-day
'woman/housewife/career person/part-timer'
visual thoughts of the housework to be done on arriving home.

Someone's washing, I spotted this washing wile out
on a 2hour walk to Denny/Banknock.
  Out walking thoughts, of washing
were married up with, bus stop thoughts.

Woman's Work,

Studio Brief 2
Writing my personal Brief, and my Individual Learning Plan.
This is my first draft of my final Degree Brief Studio Practice 2.
Title and theme is'Woman's Work.
Concept is to create visual art which encompasses a women's working day, which for many, can have a large proportion of domestic housework.  I have a lot of experimentation to do,i will use materials including Mixed Media. I intend to explore Silkscreen,Intaglio, printing on fabric/paper.  I also aim to use a 'Ready Made' household object as a Metaphor of Woman's Work, seen through a woman's eyes.  A familiar every day object associated with housework tasks, and transform   this object with text and visual artwork, into something which carries, a feminist message of intellect.  This would then be recognising the  important part women play within society (washing, cleaning, housework) visually  and metaphorically, with the underlying message that women also have intellect and artistic qualities which are assets within society.
